HORIZON is an official selection of the Sedona Film Festival, LA Skins Fest, and the Lakeview International Film Festival. It was also an Imagen Award finalist and Golden Earth Film Award nominee.

Logline

While driving on the outskirts of his isolated reservation, a troubled Native American man accidentally hits a frightened Mexican woman seeking refuge across the United States border. What begins as a chance encounter between two marginalized strangers unfolds into a heartbreaking meditation on compassion, loss, and how we find the strength to keep going.

Director's Note

HORIZON presents several unique editing challenges.

First, HORIZON is 20 minutes long — about twice the duration of a typical EditStock film — which in itself increases the project’s difficulty. However, the film’s longer duration also makes it ideal for aspiring feature editors who are willing to put in the extra time.

Additionally, HORIZON features a primary character who speaks only Spanish. No matter how editors choose to use (or not use) subtitles, editing the Spanish-heavy scenes means relying less on language and more on facial/physical expression as a creative and technical guide. Furthermore, because the film is so emotional, editors should build the actors’ dramatic performances by selecting the takes and reaction shots that best evoke their characters’ turmoil.

Finally, sound editing for HORIZON is a bit tough. Only the dialog scenes have production audio, and there are just a few wild tracks for effects (e.g., the protagonist’s truck engine).
