Boy, this is a tough one. To use Gilbert's CU or not here is a matter of opinion. I chose not to and just popped wide, as far as I remember. I recommend trying it both ways and seeing which you like better.

This is the first big challenge. I originally cut this scene exactly like this after we shot the film. However, the director and I decided later that Gilbert's fear should ramp up. He should start out a little confused and get worried and scared as the scene progresses. Take a look through the dailies and see if you can make something similar to that.
