Director's Note

In “Punishment,” which is essentially one dialog scene followed by a short transitional scene with a dissolve, most of the editor’s work lies in effectively conveying Billy’s confusion and anguish. Because Billy can’t fully express himself or understand what’s happening to him, his reaction shots are particularly important in developing the scene’s dramatic impact.
