Overview: Built By Life is a documentary about Vince McIntyre, a Canadian farmer who is preserving a way of life from a bygone age. Despite the challenges, Vince is farming without machinery, inspired by techniques he observed as a boy in post-war Ireland. Vince shares his experience of working with the land and why he still believes in doing so by hand.
Class Suggestions: Built By Hand contains a mountain of footage for students to pick from. They will be overwhelmed if they are new. Still, teachers should not be scared off by this, as it is an example from the real world. Instead, teachers should give their class first 10, then 50, then 100 B-roll clips. Once the students are comfortable with the scale of the B-roll you should give them all the footage.
Built By Life was given a PG13 rating by EditStock because there is some profanity in out-take material and marijuana is referenced once or twice. The story themes are appropriate for audiences of all ages. We believe that this film is appropriate for all colleges, and most high schools who would be forgiving of the language.
EditStock's ratings are based on the guidelines set forth by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) rating system. These ratings are issued by EditStock, and NOT the MPAA.
